Facilities Information and Resources
New Media computer and peripheral labs are available 24 hours a day to the entire New Media community, and are primarily used and designed for student work and instructional purposes. Users have access to Apple PowerMac G5 workstations equipped with the latest versions of digital video, desktop publishing, 3-D rendering, Web site authoring, animation, multimedia, graphic, and audio software. Workstations are equipped with various peripherals for scanning, film recording, CD/DVD authoring, and digital video editing.
In addition to general New Media facilities, we offer a number of program-specific labs including: Large Format Printing, Physical Computing, Sound Recording and Rapid Prototyping. The New Media BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) students have access to semi- private studios located adjacent to the main New Media computer labs.
The Media & Technology Support Services (MTSS), located in 26 willard building and wagner annex supply equipment and services to accommodate creation, documentation, instructional and exhibition needs. Students may borrow a variety of equipment that includes video cameras, playback, display and editing resources; sound recording and manipulation devices; slide projectors, digital still cameras and assorted lighting, sound and display reinforcement equipment. | High Resolution Tiled Display Wall The GEaRS Visualization Group is developing a twelve-projector (3 x 4) tiled display wall, to be driven initially by a twelve system (24 processor) linux graphics cluster. The development environment will rely heavily on Chromium and/or similar open-source parallel rendering schemes to yield a high-resolution (4096 x 2304) large screen (approx 11.5' W x 6.5' H) display. |

The Learning Factory The Learning Factory is a hands-on learning facility of the College of Engineering. Occupying 3500 sq.ft on the west campus, it provides state of the art manufacturing and prototyping facilities. Its mission is to help students develop common sense, and gain practical experience in the art of engineering. These facilities also are available to New Media students interested in digital fabrication. |
