The Master of Fine Art (MFA) with an area of concentration in New Media is a highly selective interdisciplinary MFA program that focuses on creative uses of emerging technology. It is one of only a handful of programs nationwide focusing on a New Media studio practice for artists and designers. Our program covers a wide range of approaches to concept and media. Currently we offer a graduate focus in Video Art, Mixed Media, Net Art, Physical Computing and Robotics, Video Game Art/Virtual Worlds as well as Digital Fabrication and Rapid Prototyping

As the art world has changed radically over the past ten years, so must the training of professional artists. Today's artists must possess not only the skills traditionally associated with studio production, but also must be acutely aware of critical issues in art, shifts within contemporary culture, and developments in the interdisciplinary arts.

This M.F.A. program responds to these developments by encouraging interaction among graduate students and faculty across disciplines within the School, the College of Arts and Architecture, and the University.

We are seeking students comfortable with both hands-on processes and technical skills in New Media. Our ideal student would not only be well-grounded in traditional studio concepts and practice, but be capable of engaging experimental practice in one or more of these processes: 3-D modeling, performance, video, sound design, net art, animation or robotics/physical computing.

GRADUATE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
An average of 90% of admitted studio art graduate students receive some form of Graduate Assistant support. The majority of Graduate Assistantships provide a full tuition waver and a monthly stipend in exchange for service to the program as determined by the Director of the School of Visual Arts. A competitive University Graduate Fellowship provides grants for students with exceptional academic credentials and provides a full tuition waiver and a stipend for the first year of study, without the obligation of service to the program.
