JAMES JOHNSON

James is currently working on Open Democracy Radio.

Open Democracy Radio (www.wodrfm.com) was designed to allow listeners an active participatory role in the creation of broadcast content. User’s can generate content in 4 ways: by submitting audio files through an online file dump, by creating blog entries and comments on our blog, by calling in, and through a series of open discussions that will take place in downtown State College, PA. These open discussions will then be broadcast at regularly scheduled times. You can listen online, or, if you're in State College, you can listen on your radio at 88.something. WODR’s content is generated solely by user participation.

SHANNON RITTER

As someone who has been involved in online communities for over ten years now, I'm focusing my work in Second Life on 'community' and 'identity'. My recent work involved organizing benefit events involving Second Life residents taking place simultaneously in the virtual and physical worlds. Additionally, my fascination with personal identity and the role that virtual worlds play in the formation of a person's identity is increasing. One of my current experiments related to identity and appearance involves using several different avatars and speaking with the same groups of people to see how a person's appearance might influence the community dynamic and subsequent discussions.

ERIKA SWINSON

My research is primarily concerned with implementing self-designed systems in an effort to recreate the world into a more habitable place for myself. I am interested in issues of authority juxtaposed with those of communication. While the execution of these works vary, from drinking DNA I extracted from the paper pieces of the bible to text art, what they share in common is my need to follow the rules while simultaneously seeking release from them.
